Besson Beaune 1er Cru Les Champs Pimont 2006
Xavier Besson took over the family seven hectare domaine in 1989. He immediately began to modernise the wine making and to restructure the vineyard. He was joined by his wife, Guillemette, in 1996. They now export 50% of their production – mainly to North America and Japan. They use 35% new oak for their 1er cru, which is harvested manually. Their 17th century cave is a classified historic monument and is quite spectacular. This fabulous vineyard is high up on the slope above Les Teurons. From Xavier’s tiny parcel around 4,500 bottles are made. Shows a deep ruby colour; really lifted aromas of spicy cherries and red berry fruits and on the palate it is long, pure and silky with strawberry, raspberry and cassis flavours. Best enjoyed before 2020.
