Conceito Vinhos consists of 3 properties in the Douro totalling some 79 hectares, and is run by Carla Costa Ferreira and her daughter, wine-maker, Rita Marques Ferreira. The family has been acquiring vineyards since the 1940s but Rita Marques Ferreira only made the first Conceito wines in 2004, and built the Quinta de Veiga winery the following year. All cultivation has been organic since 2006.

100% Bastardo ( a grape variety also known as Trousseau or Trousseau Noir) aged for 10 months in second and third use French oak barrels.  The fruit is sourced from a very small block of old vines at Quinta da Veiga originally planted to sell to Port shippers, who prize Bastardo for its high sugar levels.

Cherry red in colour with subtle floral aromas and hints of white pepper, clove and liquorice. On the palate the wine shows ripe cherry, cranberry and chocolate flavours, supported by fine-textured dry tannins.
