The renowned North American wine critic Jay Miller said of Doña Paula: “(It) was founded in 1997 and the first vintage was 1999. Forty percent of their production goes to the USA market. During my visit to the winery, I was impressed by the spirit of experimentation and willingness to try new and different approaches”. Malbec continues to be the most important Argentine variety and Mendoza the favorite terroir. The reasons are many, but among the most important are the excellent combination of terroir and variety, an export strategy that concentrates primarily on premium or superior quality, and finally, the uniqueness of the Malbec varietal. Since its beginnings, Viña Doña Paula has been dedicated to producing premium and ultra-premium wines. Its high altitude vineyards sit at more than 3,300 feet (1,000 meters) above sea level in the upper zone of Mendoza’s Luján de Cuyo. This estate Malbec is aged in new French oak barrels to add complexity to its delicious plum, black cherry, liquorice and dried herb flavours.
