This Western Australian winery is the product of collaboration between David Hohnen, the man who founded Cape Mentelle and Cloudy Bay and ran them until 2003 when he retired to pursue smaller scale winemaking back home in Margaret River, and his brother in law and vine grower, Murray McHenry.  These days David has handed the winemaking over to ex professional AFL full-back Trent Carroll, who continues to produce low-intervention, beautifully crafted wines that express the best of terroir and variety.

A blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Petit Verdot with (to quote McH themselves) 'an ashtray full' of Cabernet Sauvignon (we assume they cleaned out the ashtray before using it to ladle grapes into the fermenting vat), matured in French oak for 9 months before bottling.  The wine has a powerful structure, with sweet and sour plum fruit and layers of blackcurrant, aniseed, and dark chocolate.
