Morgenhof Merlot 2009
The Morgenhof Estate is located in the foothills of the Simonsberg Mountain range in Stellenbosch and produces a full range of wines including sparkling and fortified styles. The estate was originally established in 1692, but it was only in 1993 when Anne Cointreau (of the same family who own Champagne Gosset and Cognac Frapin) bought the property and applied her considerable experience that the estate began to acquire a reputation for quality wine production. The Western Cape is one of the most diverse natural habitats in the world and there is huge potential for producing interesting and uniquely South African wines. A rich dark ruby coloured wine lures you to a complex nose full of intense black cherry, mulberry and mixed spice. These enticing flavours follow through on a supple soft palate with a long lingering finish. Enjoy with roast rack of lamb on the BBQ, or pork chops in a herb & mustard crust. Also a wonderful accompaniment to cheeses.
