Description

Babich Marlborough Pinot Noir ... dark fruited and spicy wine with great persistence that we rarely find in this delicate grape. It's also becoming a huge hit on the awards circuit with international competition after international competition awarding this gold medals. It's a brilliant Pinot Noir with a spicy hit and dark sweet undertones. The palate has sweet fruits and dark earthy elements concentrated and focused with viscosity and volume. There is a dark chocolate lingering finish which screams of quality. It's a great wine to pair with steak and mushroom pie or as it's pinot noir, you can always pair it with lamb.

Product Origin; Marlborough, New Zealand

Grape type; Pinot Noir

Closure; Screwcap

Production Notes; The fruit was harvested in excellent condition from our Cowslip Valley Vineyard in the Waihopai Valley (80%) and our Headwaters Vineyard near Renwick in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley (20%). The grapes were crushed to open top vats and, following a period of cold soaking, fermented with frequent plunging of the cap. After a period on skins post primary ferment the wine was moved to 225L oak barriques to undergo malolactic fermentation and mature for 10 months. After that the wine was blended, lightly fined and bottled in mid March.

Tasting Notes; Its dark ruby red in the glass with blueberry fruits combines with the oak derived notes of mocha & toast. A complex combination of grapey sweetness and creamy berry fruits with toast and coffee oak. The Merlot predominance gives the palate its characteristic rounded structure with a moderate volume of fine-grained tannin.

Winemakers Comments ... Brooding, with sweet brambly high notes and a dab of cedar. Elegant and sweet fruited with savoury length and a lingering warmth. Fine coating tannins.

Style; Fruit driven

Food Match; BBqs, Roast & Grilled Red Meats, great with Lamb

Recommended Cellering; 6-8 Years
