Cape Chamonix Unoaked Chardonnay

Out of stock

South Africa's Franschhoek Valley gets its name from settlement by Huguenot refugees in the 17th century, and one of the first farms established by those settlers, in 1688, was La Cotte.  Wine has formed an important part of the production of this area ever since, and in 1991 Cape Chamonix Estate was founded on part of that original Huguenot farm.  Known particularly for its Chardonnay, in recent years winemaker Gottfried Mocke has established an enviable reputation for its reds too - making elegant, complex, beautifully balanced wines.

Chamonix Unoaked Chardonnay is, perhaps, the winery's flagship wine; the one on which it has built its reputation.  From fruit grown on the limestone soils of the higher slopes of the mountains bordering the Franshhoek Valley, Chamonix’s steel-fermented Chardonnay has a ripe apple and citrus aroma, intense flavours of peach, guava and lemon zest and a long finish with vanilla and cream tones and hints of rhubarb, all supported by perfectly integrated acidity.
