Ridgeview Bloomsbury 2011
Ridgeview Estate is a family business with a 6.5 hectare vineyard on the South Downs. Ridgeview was founded in 1994 by Mike and Chris Roberts and is dedicated to creating world class sparkling wines in the South Downs of England. Their vineyards specialise in growing classic grape varieties to make the highest quality bottle fermented sparkling wines. The world class status of their wines is reflected by the number of national & international medals and trophies received since the release of the first wines from the 1996 vintage. The second generation of the family have now become established in key roles within Ridgeview, enabling the continued expansion of the business. The dedication, passion and determination of the team at Ridgeview have significantly contributed to the international reputation and popularity now attributed to English Sparkling Wine. Ridgeview’s trade mark MERRET™ is in honour of Englishman Christopher Merret. In 1662 he presented a paper to the Royal Society in London which documented the process of making traditional method sparkling wines. This was 30 years before the technique was documented in champagne. To celebrate Merret’s achievements Ridgeview has kept a London connection when naming their wines. The Bloomsbury is a traditional Champagne blend of 64% Chardonnay, 14% Pinot Meunier and 22% Pinot Noir. A light gold colour with a fine persistant mousse. Citrus fruit aromas and a hint of melon and honey. Chardonnay dominance brings finesse, along with crisp fruit freshness and toasty notes. The two Pinot’s add depth and character. A beautifully balanced finish. Will age gracefully over time as the Chardonnay matures. Drink now or age for two to three years. An excellent aperitif as well as a great accompaniment to shell fish. The crispness makes it ideal with oily fish such as salmon and smoked trout.
